This Week's Digest: June 3
This was a short week, after a long weekend in New Haven for a friend’s wedding. I was able to kickstart my summer challenge — I’ll be visiting 17 bookstores in 13 weeks — with a visit to Atticus Bookstore. Most of my week was spent getting caught up on work, after having had COVID the last few weeks. I’m really looking forward to resting and resetting some more this weekend. I’m at the door of a lot of big life and career decisions and this time around I’m trying to pace myself as I think through what’s next. It’s anxiety inducing, but necessary.
I ripped this page from a book and I have it on my desk every day, the quote reads — “Uncertainty is the cause of anxiety, but also a solution. While everything is uncertain, everything is hope. Everything is ambiguous. Everything is possible. We exist on a spinning coin. We cannot predict how it will land but we can enjoy the shine as it spins.”
And, well, that’s what I’m trying to embody lately. But as I figure all that out, here are some of my favorite links of the week.
SEASONAL DEPRESSION ISN’T JUST A WINTER THING
I’m working on a reel for Calm that’s focused on summer seasonal depression and this article from the New York Times was a part of my research, but also just a great, reaffirming piece to read if you struggle in the summer too.
The Hollywood Reporter — Comedy Actor Roundtable
This was so good and worth the 55 minutes of your time. It’s also not just limited to comedy — or the formation of jokes — I think it’s a bigger conversation around creativity, timing, and process.
AERIE AND AMAZON FINDS
I’m working on editing and curating my wardrobe to better define my style right now and these two additions have been fun. The Aerie High Waisted Cropped Kick Flare Pant (on sale right now for $26) are a loungewear addition that can be dressed up in a pinch. The Amazon set ($30) will be a staple this summer — it runs true to size (I ended up getting a Small and kept it because the oversize fit of the shirt is what I preferred, but the shorts are rolled up once).
Lori Gottlieb On Happy To Be Here
Lori Gottlieb shared so many nuggets of wisdom in this episode, including my season favorite so far — “We always like to say: before diagnosing someone with depression, make sure they aren’t surrounded by assholes…”. You can listen to HTBH wherever you listen to podcasts — Spotify and Apple to start.
