Weekly Links: Adult Friendships, The Bear, And A Vacuum

I’m playing catch up on the blog, but had too many fun things to share to wait until end of week. Before I dive in, it’s Monday and I know this day can feel heavy. We often pile on the expectation of a week’s worth of work into an 8-hour window. I hope as you’re winding down for the day, you’re giving yourself space and time to actually wind down. Check in with yourself, what you need, and how you can give it to yourself this evening.

The Power of a Casual Check-In

Two NYTimes articles are making my list this week. I post daily check-ins on my Instagram Stories and have seen first-hand how much people appreciate the small way to check-in with themselves and to have someone else bear witness to that. This article explains how powerful that can be between friends, and even acquaintances.

$33 Vacuum

I’m pulling together a list of my favorite home buys over the last year, but this was a top seller for me during last week’s Prime Day and wanted to share again. It’s such a good steal at under $35 for a vacuum and it’s great on area rugs and laminate floors. It also stores so easily in an apartment.

The Magic of Your First Work Friends

I lost it at how wonderful this article was at capturing the magic of those first work friendships. I’ve been WFH since I graduated from college, so my “work friends” are more spread out and don’t necessarily come from the same “work place,” but every point in this article still holds true.

The Bear

We watched the whole first season (8-episodes) in one day. This is the best show I’ve watched in a very long time. The writing is phenomenal. My boyfriend is a filmmaker and he tends to catch things I miss/by osmosis has also trained me to do the same. I say this because Episode 7 is owed all the awards for how it was filmed. If you’re going to watch the series, don’t read these until you’re done — a take by The Atlantic on how masculinity plays a role on set and a take on the power of a 30-minute episode.
