Tips If You’re Working On Your Creative Hustle This Weekend

I’ve been feeling my creativity hit new levels lately and it’s felt so invigorating. I know that in addition to resting and family time, this weekend will be spent working through a few different creative hustles. The ones I’m focusing on — mapping out a course, a community platform, and prepping for a photoshoot next week — all fall into the category of creative hustle for me.

But whether you’re pursuing a hobby, a side hustle, or a passion project this weekend, I know weekends spent with your creativity can sometimes feel lonely. A big goal for my community member platform is to give us all a space to connect with others who also value creativity in similar ways. But in the meantime, I don’t want you to feel lonely or alone.

Below I’m sharing some things I keep in mind on these weekends.

Create a different atmosphere

One of the most fun parts about weekend projects is that they don’t have to have the Monday through Friday structure just yet. You’re either at the beginning fun stages of ideation or even if you’re knee deep in logistics there’s a “secret project” feel to them that can feel really fun. Setting the atmosphere up so that it matches how you feel about it can really help. I light candles every Saturday morning and play records on the record player. Two habits that I sometimes don’t have time for during the week. I don’t take meetings on weekends and time that isn’t spent working on the project is usually spent doing something that will feed my creativity. Don’t be afraid to set the mood up differently for your weekend creative projects, it’ll make you feel even more excited about them.

TAKE BREAKS

You’re allowed to take breaks even if you are working on a really fun project. It’s the weekend, don’t put yourself in a 9 to 5 box. The reality is that our weekend projects may one day become M-F work, but for now, it’s two days that help us get ahead. Don’t put pressure on the next two days to be the ones that help you both start and finish a project in 48 hours. The last few weekends my breaks have included enjoying the last of summer and going to lay out by the pool on Saturday mornings. This weekend I’ll be hitting up Homegoods to pick up some decor items that can help me finish up my office. Allow yourself the time to play so that you can come back to your work with even more positivity.

SPEND TIME LEARNING (NOT JUST DOING)

I bought a course on time management that I’m still working my way through and weekends are usually the time that I dedicate to watching the videos. We get wrapped up on creativity having to equate productivity or immediate results, which leaves little room for learning. This last year I’ve focused on learning and reading about my craft so that I can expand my point of view. If you’re working solo on a project, this can also be one way to feel less alone as you navigate the ins and outs of a space that maybe no one in your immediate circle knows much about.

Challenge yourself to do one out of the box thing

A few weeks ago I decided that I was going to push myself to film some reels. I’d had a hard time getting into short form videos because I didn’t feel like I had a place in them. It’s been heartening to see that I can find a way to make fun, short videos that resonate with my community and actually offer value. No matter your area of creativity, try to challenge yourself to do one out of the box thing and see if it works or doesn’t. Even if it doesn’t, it just means it’s one less thing you’re wondering about.

I’d love to know if you’re working on a passion project this weekend too! Let me know down below.
